Do you have rental reimbursement on your car insurance?

If you have a car worth repairing, you should consider including rental reimbursement on your car insurance.

Check with your agent to see if it is worthwhile to you.

I am just a consumer, but from what I understand it will generally pay for a rental car or at least some of the rental fee if there is an accident and your car is in the repair shop. I found out that it may take a few days for your repair shop to obtain the parts, several days to replace the parts and do other mechanical things, and some time additional for paint.

You should examine whether or not it is worthwhile if you need a rental for a week, two to three weeks, or longer. Ask your agent how many days does it take to repair cars for typical accidents.

In any case, you should go over your policies with your agent every couple of years. I know I complain about rate increases and sometimes coverage changes to save money are necessary, but some coverages may really be necessary to keep and to make sure you still have it.

Rental reimbursement may save you several hundred dollars, maybe more, if you have an accident and your car is in the repair shop for some time and you need to rent a car during that time frame.

You should also ask about rental reimbursement coverage that your spouse, parents, siblings, children of driving age, and friends may or not have. You may be able to save them some money. You may be able to make them a little more independant if they can afford to rent a vehicle if they have an accident in their future. You may be able to also have some peace if you share the car with others and have rental reimbursement in case of an accident.
